When I first met Steph and Sandy at Stanleys open house I knew they were an awesome couple! They were so laid back and easy going, and so very, very happy. At one of our planning meetings I remember asking about a ‘what-if-it-rains-plan' for their outdoor wedding ceremony and Steph said “we don’t care we just want to get married”
Little did we know their wedding day would be the day that 5 tornadoes touched down in the Ottawa area and that we would be left without power. We don’t get Tornadoes ever, so this was an extremely rare occurrence-lots of damage and rebuild but no loss of life, miraculously. Luckily we only lost power after a very windy ceremony and windy portraits, during the reception but only after the food was ready to go! How lucky was that?!
Luckily DJ 2J’s, who like myself, lives only 5 minutes from Stanley’s, was able to dash out and pick up his generator. The generator powered the music, mics and the fairy lights behind the main table. My handy battery powered Fotodiox pop spot lights back lit the couple for their first dances and lit the couple and speakers during speeches (total life savers!). The rest of the venue was quickly lit up with candle lights by the Stanley’s staff and it turned into the most romantic, magical reception anyone could have dreamed of.
How were the couple during all this? Well to tell you the truth, they couldn’t have cared less and even felt it enhanced the wedding making for some unexpected and beautiful memories they couldn’t have imagined leading up to their day.
Their story: Steph met Sandy at his sister and brother in law’s house one summer and they hit it off right away. She was immediately smitten by the guitar playing, truck driving, no shoe wearing paramedic. Sandy proposed on their front porch swing, seven years later, where they sit together for morning coffee. After conveniently hiding the ring beside Stephanie’s asthma inhaler, Sandy took the box and asked her to marry him.
